Public Classes – Courtroom Testimony and Preparation

The Professional Investigator’s Choice for Training that Counts

Any investigator can go out and collect great evidence in a case; however, the evidence can only be considered credible and reliable if the investigator himself is considered to be credible and reliable. It is one thing to go out and develop the information, but you must also be able to articulate the facts and the information in a professional and reliable manner.

The credibility of witnesses in a case can make or break the case. This fact has been proven time and time again in many high profile criminal cases where the evidence clearly indicated guilt on the part of the defendant; however, the witnesses were discredited in the cases and the juries either deadlocked or acquitted the defendant on the charges. Many of these cases even included extremely strong DNA evidence.

It is extremely important to understand the importance of presenting information to juries, prosecutors, judges and to the general public in an easily understandable fashion that clearly brings forth the facts in the matter. The key foundation to being a credible witness is to always be honest. There is no room in our judicial system to bend the truth or to not be completely honest. Great witnesses are always honest and speak the truth and allow the facts to speak for themselves.

A great witness never wants to be perceived as the “hired gun” or “mercenary” that will do whatever it takes to get the jury to believe them. Credibility is key. It is important for the witnesses and experts in cases to “take the straight & narrow road” that leads directly to their destination. The witness does not want to “dance around” the facts. A great witness will clearly articulate the facts in a fashion that the jury and all others will simply understand. It is important not to confuse or overexaggerate the facts in the case.

Our team has spent many years building cases for criminal and civil prosecution. We have the experience in dealing with all types of matters that have lead to our investigators having to testify in Federal, State and Civil courtrooms regarding their involvement and the role that they played in various investigations. Based on our experience over the years, we have learned how important it is to be a great witness. We have developed an outstanding training program that has prepared all of our investigators to be credible witnesses.

Our training programs are designed to prepare everyone from the novice investigator to the expert investigator to be a professional and credible witness, who can clearly articulate the facts in a matter and gain the respect of juries and members of the judicial system. Professional Investigators generally do not have great reputations with the public, so it is extremely important that all investigators hold themselves to the highest standards possible and strive to build their reputations and the overall reputation of the investigative community.

The IC Program for courtroom training and preparation will cover the topics and subject matter that will assist investigators to be the best overall investigators that they can be and to be a witness that every judge and jury will consider credible. The following areas will be covered during the training:

  • The Foundation & Strategic Planning

  • Courtroom Testimony
  • Courtroom Demeanor & Attire
  • Testimony Preparation
  • How to Handle Cross Examination
  • What does the Jury Expect?
  • The Overall Ins & Outs

When an investigator is hired to conduct an investigation, it is extremely important to understand what the overall goal of the investigation is and if it is expected that the investigation may lead them into court. Every good investigator should always prepare themselves to end up in court even if the client says the case will never go to court.

It is not only the investigator’s responsibility to conduct a professional investigation, but the investigator must also be a credible witness. If an investigator can do both, their clients will be extremely pleased and the reputation of the investigator and his business will grow and flourish.

A company or investigator is only as good as their reputation. That is why it is so important to conduct every aspect of your investigations and testimonies with the utmost respect, professionalism and integrity.
